This is an oil painting titled 'Archaeology of Thought' and it has been created on a cradled wooden board using cold wax medium. The cold wax process favours rapid execution and energetic marks or gestures, encouraging the creation of layers of translucent colour, texture and impasto.
This theme is a continuing exploration of landscape, climate and sensory information translated into paint. Why archaeology?…..because I am interested in what lies beneath the surface, the stratification of accumulated knowledge and experience. In this work, although apparently devoid of objects, people and scenery, the conventions of pictorial space exert a gravitational pull……….inescapable.
