In November 2023 I exhibited at the Edinburgh Art Fair for the second consecutive year. The fair is held at the O2 Academy Edinburgh and brings together galleries and artists from across the UK and beyond, attracting a broad and engaged audience over several days.

The Work on Show
The selection of paintings I brought to Edinburgh in 2023 was drawn primarily from my forest series — works that explore the vertical rhythms of trees, the layering of tones, and the tension between flatness and depth that has been central to my practice for many years. All works are made using oil and cold wax medium, and each carries the characteristic richness of surface that this approach produces.
The forest series has been a sustained preoccupation. Each painting is an attempt to inhabit the forest rather than describe it — to find an equivalent in paint for the experience of being surrounded by trees, by shifting light, by the particular silence of a woodland interior.

The Edinburgh Art Fair
The Edinburgh Art Fair is one of Scotland's most significant annual art events, offering visitors the opportunity to encounter a wide range of contemporary work in a single venue. Edinburgh's cultural heritage and engaged art-going public make it a particularly rewarding context in which to show new paintings, and the fair has a strong commitment to quality and accessibility.
Exhibiting alongside a thoughtfully curated group of artists — including Trina Bohan, Nancy Chambers, Ted Dunmow, Sheila Fowler, Magdalena Morey, Christine Ralph, and Jane Upstone — is always a stimulating experience. The range of approaches and sensibilities on show makes for a lively and varied exhibition.
