Abstract red painting; impasto texture

Red embodies an emotional power like no other colour and the associations for each individual are almost limitless. The materials used in this painting include bitumen, pumice stone and cold wax medium. There is a contrast between reflective and matt surfaces and the rhythmic application of paint is central to this piece. My fascination with Minimalism and colour field painting are also evident in this relatively abstract work. The materials have been applied with a combination of brushes, palette knives and card.
